Seasonal changes also mean the horse's requirements change and the diet must be adjusted accordingly. It gets colder, rainier and the pastures muddier. Horses need more energy to keep themselves warm and their immune system requires extra support. With muddier pastures, horses are more likely to suffer from mud fever. In addition, horses are often turned out in sand paddocks, increasing the risk of consciously or unconsciously ingesting sand. As the horse has less or no access to fresh grass, other types of roughage are added to the diet to meet the horse's daily requirements. However, these types of roughage contain fewer vitamins and minerals compared to fresh grass.

Synovium has therefore listed the winter essentials that are indispensable for your horse this autumn and winter.
